"The horn stirs memories of fearful things, of powerful things, of noble and beautiful things!"

Bio

Anita Rodriguez

Anita has performed in a number of ensembles, including the Muncie Symphony Orchestra, the Occasional Symphony, the Peabody Conductor’s Orchestra, and the Muncie Civic Theater. Additionally, she earned an honorable mention at the Ball State Concerto Competition.

In addition to subbing with the Muncie Symphony Orchestra, Anita was a member of the MSO Music on the Move Woodwind Quintet, an educational outreach program in which chamber music groups are sent to elementary schools to teach students about the instruments of the orchestra, as well as teaching them important musical concepts, such as melody, harmony, rhythm, and the importance of practicing. Not only serving an educational purpose, the group is also intended to get students excited about playing an instrument in their school band or orchestra. She is currently a member of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's outreach program, OrchKids, as a private and classroom instructor. This program offers private and pull-out lessons for students at Baltimore public schools, giving students the opportunity for one-on-one instruction that they may not otherwise be able to afford.

Another important aspect of Anita’s career is her involvement in the Army National Guard. During her 4 years of enlistment, she has performed with the 38th Infantry Division band in Indianapolis, Indiana and in the 229th Army Band in Parkville, Maryland. Through these military ensembles, she has performed for important ceremonies such as Governor Holcomb’s inauguration, as well as important civilian events such as the Indianapolis 500 parade. Through her service, she has helped to tell America’s story through music and helped foster support for our United States Army.

Anita can be heard on Sutton Foster’s Album Take Me to the World and on the soundtrack for Ball State’s centennial documentary, From Normal to Extraordinary: Ball State’s First Century. The documentary was premiered in Emens Auditorium with the studio orchestra performing the soundtrack live.

Anita received the Presidential Scholarship of the Arts to attend Ball State University, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Music in 2019. She is currently receiving the Yale Brody Memorial Scholarship to attend Peabody Conservatory.
